Demon’s Souls Remake Review Is Demons Souls Ps5 Gameplay Hard?

While the updated version of the 2009  Sawer138 classic will probably still be super difficult (the iconic “you died” message flashes up towards the end of the trailer for good reason), it looks pretty spectacular this time around. For many video games, this level of rich detail on buildings and foliage might whizz by. In Demon’s Souls, it gives you something to relish as you take your time deciding if, when, and how to move forward, as you take into account where your next foe (or foes) might emerge from. Stopping and smelling the dried, nearly dead roses can be a matter of Demon’s Souls life or death.

As it did with Shadow of the Colossus, Sony and Bluepoint will include a now-standard photo mode in Demon’s Souls. And similar to Ghost of Tsushima, and that game’s “Kurosawa mode,” Demon’s Souls will let players enjoy the whole of the game using visual filters. “We’ve been thinking about doing a remake of Demon’s Souls for years,” Moore said during a video call. But I was always a little afraid of tackling it because it’s so beloved. It wasn’t until we redefined what a remake was with Shadow of the Colossus on PlayStation 4 that we felt that we could take on the challenge of Demon’s Souls and do it justice. Yes, Demon’s Souls is often as difficult as this series’ reputation would lead you to believe it is, but I’m struck by how balanced much of this game feels.

Sometimes an enemy can be killed by 2 Soul Arrows OR 2 Soul Rays, so pay attention to how much damage you are dealing, and use whichever saves the most Mana. Soul Arrow – This will be the very first spell you have, and it will carry you through the first several hours of the game. It’s cheap, it can kill some enemies in one shot, and most in 2 near the beginning of the game. Use it to pick off harder enemies at range, or when enemies are grouped up and difficult to melee. That reputation is well earned and Demon’s Souls has always had some of the best bosses in the series.

Demon’s Souls Remake

Of course, the news that Demon’s Souls is getting a remake has since sparked excitement among its fanbase, who have long been requesting for a reimagining of the game. Now that Demon’s Souls is only a few days away from release, here is everything players should know about the upcoming remake including its features, gameplay, and differences from the original. A remake of Demon’s Souls, developed by Bluepoint Games, was announced in June 2020. It was rebuilt “from the ground up” and released among the launch titles of the PlayStation 5. The remake also contains additional gamemodes and graphical options. As part of the FandomWire team, Daniel has followed the hero-shooter genre closely with a focus on titles like VALORANT, Apex Legends, and Marvel Rivals.

You will need to rescue 3 NPCs in order to buy them all, but you will need multiple playthroughs since some spells use the same Boss Soul to be purchased and you can only get them once in each playthrough. BluePoint has also confirmed that certain game breaking bugs have been fixed. BluePoint has decided to carry over the often confusing World Tendency system from the original Demon’s Souls, but they have made some changes that will hopefully make it easier to understand. This includes UI changes that make the state of your World and Character Tendency more observable.

@carlos82 Obviously this game isn’t nearly as innovative as Ridge Racer was, but that was over 20 years ago and games have changed a lot of the years. That said, this game really is the best launch title in a very long time because it shows off the power of the PS5 and also hints at the possibilities that future games built specifically for the system will achieve. Particle effects, ray tracing, high definition, textures all combine to make a world that feels real. Changes have been made to the visuals, vocal performances, cutscenes, animations, and user interface – but this is still very much the same Demon’s Souls. You’ll create a character, pick a class, play through a series of stages, and die a bunch.

At the end of the tunnel kill the Fat Official for the Official’s Clothes. Now go a bit north and down the stairs, there is a big flame bug here, Patches one floor lower and Ring of Flame Resistance just after the bug (you need to kill the bug to pick it up). Just bellow the ring you can pick up the Club weapon and talk to Patches to finish his part 1 of his questline if you want. Return to Nexus to die there and you can continue in your soul form onto the next world. [newline]A presentation retrieved from the massive Insomniac data breach in December 2023 showed concept art for in-development projects at several PlayStation studios, including Bluepoint Games. The artwork depicts two characters holding spears overlooking what seems like an Aztec pyramid, with the general theme skewing towards the fantasy side. Also returning is Demon’s Souls’ asynchronous multiplayer, a system that lets you travel to other players’ game worlds, and allows your own to be visited in turn.

There’s One Last Thing Cross-platform Games Need To Make Standard To Be Perfect

The developer issued this statement in response to some rumors that the project might have been canceled. Bluepoint Games performed a masterwork with its last remaster, Shadow of the Colossus, but has managed an even more impressive feat with Demon’s Souls. This is a faultless remaster of a huge, detailed challenge – and it’s required playing on the PS5. Fans won’t have long to wait to see how the team rose to the challenge of making Elden Ring FromSoftware’s best-looking game yet as it is set to arrive on PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X/S, Xbox One, and PC on February 24, 2022. Looking back on it, I realized that the game had been constantly teaching me how to get better, even if I didn’t know it, and that I could use the skills I was subconsciously learning to play better.

As you can see, this isn’t a remaster, it’s a full-on ground-up remake of the game that spawned the Dark Souls series as well as Bloodborne. Dungeons of Hinterberg, the cel-shaded action RPG from Curve Games and Microbird, is making its way to the PlayStation 5. The price hasn’t been confirmed, but it goes for $30 on both Xbox and Steam, so it’ll likely be the same price when it drops on PlayStation.

A later swamp-themed level was so filled with danger that I had to inch my way through, fearing that any crucial mistake could cost me nearly an hour of progress. I figured that since I had gotten through those, and because I knew Demon’s Souls would be a challenge going in, I would be able to stick with it no matter what. For more information on boss soul weapon upgrades, check out this very helpful Boss Soul Weapons chart on Fextralife’s Demon’s Souls Wiki. But the original game’s best spots were interspersed between uninspiring PS3-era marches through generic castles.

Doors here just on the opposite side of the fog are locked – we will return here much later. Play until you die, most likely it will be when you reach the big demon boss. Don’t worry, you will be transfered to the Nexus, the in-game hub area from which you enter other worlds. First up, you might want to know the project’s history and how much From Software is involved. According to Moore, it was Bluepoint’s work on Shadow of the Colossus, which he said “redefined” what a remake should be, that gave Sony the confidence and knowledge to take on Demon’s Souls. That game was released in February 2018, but I imagine production on Demon’s Souls started much before that.

The new animations in Demon’s Souls particularly involving weapon animations, as well as the backstabs and ripostes, are a welcome improvement on the flow of movement from the original game. Looking back at the PS3 version of Demon’s Souls now, the animations seem almost primitive in comparison to the developer’s more recent works, making Bluepoint’s reworks of the animations stand out all the more. Demon’s Souls was originally released in 2009 on the PlayStation 3, and was the catalyst for the incredibly popular Dark Souls series, which is beloved by many due to its punishing difficult and satisfying gameplay. Demon’s Souls, which was first released by FromSoftware on the PS3 in 2009, set the tone for many of FromSoftware’s future games. The developer’s biggest hits, such as Dark Souls, Bloodborne, and Elden Ring, all originated from Demon’s Souls.

Most Disappointing Games Of 2025 (so Far)

There’s a whole pack of them, but all I can see down the hallway is a flickering torch on the wall carving out a small patch of light in the darkness. I could cheat by turning the brightness on my TV up, but Demon’s Souls looks too good for me to stoop to that trick. Dreading what I can’t see beyond the torchlight is a big part of the fun in the PS5’s outrageously pretty remake.

In general, the remake includes very little in terms of new content. There are some new weapons and such, like what we saw with the deluxe edition and pre-order bonuses, but nothing really beyond that. That said, just like the game’s visuals, the soundtrack and dialogue have been entirely re-corded to bring them both up to modern standards.

Die, though, and you’ll forfeit those souls unless you can get back to the point of your death on the next run. Released in 2009 to mainly cult interest outside of Japan, Demon’s Souls is the first Souls-like game from designer Hidetaka Miyazaki and developer FromSoftware. It laid the foundations that have borne so much fruit across the Dark Souls series, Bloodborne and Sekiro, in the form of crushing difficulty, nefariously intricate level design, and a miasmic, unsettling tone. We’ve known for a few months that Bluepoint Games is remastering Demon’s Souls for PS5, and now we have our first look at gameplay.
