Long Story Short is for comic fans who want to get caught up on the entirety of Marvel history as quickly as possible. Rewards for completing these various activities vary, with some ranging from genuinely exciting story teases for what’s to come, to simply gaining some tech parts to upgrade your abilities with. The tasks are often so mundane and repetitive, however, that I did frequently question whether these small, congratulatory nuggets were worth the slog they too often turned out to be. On PS5 in 2023, Spider-Man 2 at least served as an impressive technical showcase for the hardware, and a blockbuster release in a relatively quiet release schedule.
The first game will always be better but this one is still a great game that’s definitely worth playing. With the small exception of a Mister Negative boss fight, but he doesn’t do anything until that point. And I applaud them for trying to use new characters; however, it came at the cost of a cohesive universe. It takes a very long time for Venom to show up, some would say too long, but he steals the show the second he does. Everything he does is intimidating, and you feel the power behind every movement.
Marvel’s Spider-man 2 Gameplay
The majority of the side activities wind up feeling both mechanically and narratively pointless. An electric bike race feels silly enough in a Spider-Man game, but when the stakes are just “I need someone to try out my electric bike”, it’s hard not to think Miles and Peter have more pressing stuff to be getting on with. Far too much of what you’re doing feels like padding from the early days of open world games—there’s more inspiration here from Crackdown than there is from GTA V.
Its story of two Spider-Men is a great time and a Spidey fan’s dream to play through as comic book pages are brought to life, elegantly walking the tightrope between light humour and heavier themes. Meanwhile, Insomniac refines a successful formula of combat and web-swinging without revolutionising either in major ways, making them comfy and familiar with just enough new tweaks and abilities to elevate them to fun new heights. The part that feels like it actually needed a radical rethinking is the open world of New York City, which has been made bigger but not better, with an exhausting checklist of mostly repetitious side activities. But it’s safe to call this another thrilling Spider-Man adventure that delivers Insomniac’s best tale yet, and despite its open world falling short, it’s a reliably fun superhero power trip.

The gameplay builds on the foundation established by its predecessors, with an emphasis on the multiple play styles offered by Peter Parker and Miles Morales as Spider-Men. The game expands on their existing traversal and combat abilities, including new web-based gadgets and suits that can be unlocked through progressing in the story. It also introduces the former Spider-Man’s symbiote suit, granting Parker unique abilities from his previous playable appearance. Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 is an action-packed, open-world superhero game that expands on its predecessor with improved gameplay, fluid combat mechanics, and dynamic web-swinging across New York City. Critics highlight its captivating story, compelling characters, and impressive visuals.
The main story took me around 18 hours to complete before I hit 100%, and the subsequent platinum trophy popped up to congratulate my efforts after 27 in total. Despite whatever loftier ambitions the story may have, this is still unapologetically an old-school approach to open-world game design, and nowhere is this displayed more clearly than in its optional quests. Spider-Man 2, and to an extent all great Spider-Man stories, tackle themes of adolescence and puberty – a time of uncertainty for even the most normal of teenagers trying to control bodily fluids. We join Miles at this exact point in his life, with family ties straining, friendships facing fresh challenges, and life decisions of genuine importance being posed for the first time.
Fired for abandoning the class, Peter returns to his Aunt May’s home in Queens–which he has moved into following her death[b]–to meet with Mary Jane. They are surprised by Harry, who has miraculously recovered from his terminal illness. Harry hires Peter to work at his environmental technology startup, the Emily-May Foundation (named after Aunt May and Harry’s mother Emily), so they can pursue his dream of “healing the world”.

And while we know Peter will be able to wield Symbiote powers at some stage, there’s no telling if Venom himself will eventually join forces with the spidey duo, perhaps uniting against the common threat of Kraven The Hunter. Obviously, it wouldn’t be a Spider-Man game without the man of the hour, Peter Parker. Players will reprise the role of Spidey in Insomniac’s sequel, stepping into the shoes of the friendly neighborhood hero – though he won’t be alone. The first full-fledged sequel is just around the corner, as the first-party PlayStation studio is close to bringing the Marvel icon’s next story to life. 777X -Man 2 minimum specs almost completely mimic those of Horizon Forbidden West, which is no surprise given that both games are PS5 ports that use expansive open worlds with a high level of graphical fidelity. Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 is here, and the fact that it came only a little over a year after releasing on consoles is a nice surprise.
Very few of the alternate color schemes look better than the default, though. The Spider-Man 2 PC specs are coming in hot, with publisher PlayStation Studios dropping details about the PC port’s system requirements just a day before launch. The DLC also brings back multiple characters from the base game like Yuri Watanabe, Silver Sablinova and Screwball, just to name a few. With the help of his new suit, Spider-Man defeats Doc Ock and takes the cure, but there is only enough left to save either Aunt May from dying or to replicate the formula to save everyone else.
